We believe that access to education is vitally important to our communities and at the heart of ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life’s purpose to create confidence for generations. In 2024, we invested $725,000 to support college and career readiness programs and services for under-resourced students around the world. This includes the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation’s current multi-year commitments with Junior Achievement USA and Girls Inc. of Orange County, as well as Dress for Success and The Access Project in our international offices.
In 2024, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation committed $300,000 over three years to Girls Inc. of Orange County to support their College and Career Readiness programs. By 2027, Girls Inc. of Orange County anticipates doubling the number of participants in these programs, meaning an additional 1,700 girls will have the tools they need to establish their personal and academic goals, and eventually become a competitive college applicant and a successful college student.Â
In 2022, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation invested $500,000 in Junior Achievement USA over five-years to support the organization in the reimagining of their three popular national student competition events that immerse students in real-world scenarios while teaching them important financial literacy skills: Titan National Challenge, Social Innovation Challenge, and the Stock Market Challenge. Students who participate in these programs will learn how to run a company, what it’s like to invest in a competitive setting, and understand the financial impact of issues their local community is facing and compete to develop innovative solutions. In addition to these programs helping students build a strong understanding of financial security, they will also learn vital leadership and networking skills.Â
Since 2018, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation has been partnering with Life Happens to fund college scholarships for students who lost a parent without life insurance. Scholarships are announced in September, during Life Insurance Awareness Month, which for twenty years has been educating consumers about the importance of life insurance and its role in protecting families’ financial security. Each year, the Foundation awards $15,000 scholarships to five college-bound high school seniors, or current college students, in states where a concentration of ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life employees live and work.Â
In 2019, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation made a 10-year, $2 million commitment to the LIFEvest program. With a shared vision to support underserved communities with financial education, the program strives to strengthen an understanding in financial matters, expose students to a college campus, encourage admission to a college or university, explore various career fields, and inspire confidence and success in all areas of life. The ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life LIFEvest Financial Literacy Program, hosted by the Center for Investment and Wealth Management at the UC Irvine Paul Merage School of Business, is a weeklong summer on-campus training program dedicated to teaching underserved students currently enrolled in 8th and 9th grade about financial literacy. Students who apply live in Southern California, and come from low-income, diverse, and underrepresented communities in Orange County, Los Angeles, Riverside, and Atlanta. More than 90% of them would be the first in their families to go to college.Â
In 2021, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation provided a $1.5 million transformational grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast to support a five-year partnership with the College Bound program. This investment is helping the Club scale the program to provide more students access to the year-round program, including daily academic support, numerous college pathway activities, assisting with resources acquisition, and exploring career options. The College Bound program primarily targets at-risk Orange County, CA, youth who face high dropout rates and lack equitable access to resources, opportunities and mentors, and nearly 90% of College Bound students identify as Latino and are low-income, first-generation students.
In 2021, the ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Foundation announced a $1 million transformational grant to the American College of Financial Services Center for Economic Empowerment and Equality, which is committed to narrowing the wealth gap and promoting economic justice with collective, community-focused solutions. The five-year partnership is focused on providing upward mobility and wealth building for underserved communities, including Blacks, Latinos, Asians, Women and other marginalized groups.Â
We’ve partnered with several charities who support students from under-resourced backgrounds to help unlock their potential. In the UK we’re working with The Access Project who match up volunteer tutors (some of whom come from ÖÆ·þË¿Íà Life Re) with students to support them through GCSEs and A levels. We also provide mentors to help with university applications.
Junior Achievement is a charity dedicated to offering training to students between 10 and 18 years of age teaching work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. We regularly volunteer at schools who are part of this programme and provide financial support to both charities.Â
Dress for Success empowers women to get into the workplace from positions of disadvantage by providing professional clothing and styling, interview coaching and ongoing support once they rejoin the workplace.
With bases in London, Toronto and Sydney we’re able to make a difference to many women’s lives through running career development days and also volunteering with the charity helping sort clothing and style the women who visit the charity.
